Initially
a 3D B0 map of the target region is acquired. The B0 map is decomposed into its spherical harmonics constituents,
their composition analyzed and shim values for optimal shimming of each
slice calculated.
The
L>M stores the settings for each slice in separate
files, loads the complete set of files into the console’s memory and
waits for a trigger from the console.
The
console releases a TTL trigger when the image acquisition of each slice
is initiated. Upon release of each trigger, the corresponding shim file
is activated and shim currents are set to the required values.
The
console runs the pulse sequence for that given slice and reinitiates the
same process for the next slice.
